Nokia 8110 4G hands-on review

At this year's Mobile World Congress not all of the hype is about smartphones, Nokia is going retro yet again with this Nokia 8110 4G.

The 8110 belongs to the same originals family as last year's re-imagined Nokia 3310, this nostalgic lineup is meant for people who want to take a break from their social networks or if you just need a second phone.

The 8110 is built from plastic and features a sliding cover for the keypad which can be used to answer and to end your calls, from the side you'll see that the whole phone is curved and with this yellow color scheme the nickname banana phone comes naturally if you don't like bananas there is a black color option available as well.

The 8110 runs something called Smart feature OS which has its roots in the Firefox OS, at first glance it's not that much different from last year's 3310. As you'd expect there is no touchscreen all navigation on the menu is done with the physical buttons, however now we have the KYLE OS App Store to download apps and games under the 4 gig of available storage. The phone performs great and you can even enjoy some classic games from Nokia snake looks pretty good on the 2.4 inch QVGA LCD display which is colourful and has decent brightness.

With 4G in the name it makes sense that you can use data and make calls over the LTE network, connectivity is surprisingly solid besides 4G you also have Wi-Fi Bluetooth and even GPS too, there's a microUSB port and a 3.5 millimeter headphone jack which you can use with a built-in FM radio and with a 1500 million power battery, battery life should be pretty reliable.

Camera wise shots look about as you'd expect from a 2 megapixel single shooter but you're probably not after this phone for the camera anyway, if you're just looking to make 4G phone calls without breaking the bank and still turn a few heads on the street the Nokia 8110 4G could be the right choice for you, it is available starting from May for around 80 Euros.
